About the artist

From an early age, I knew I wanted to write and illustrate my own books.  Reading was like breathing to me back then, and drawing seemed like second nature.  I made the decision to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Tyler School of Art when I graduated high school in 2004.  I was sure that I would major in painting, but things changed, as they often do, and I ended up getting my degree in Metals/Jewelry/CADCAM in 2008.

A few years into the jewelry world I started to feel that I wanted to do something different with my life, so I went back to school and have worked as a veterinary dermatology nurse since 2013.  At the same time, I found myself somewhat immersed in the t-shirt design community with mild success across several printing platforms.

Through it all, I always came back to painting and writing, though both are harder for me now than they were in childhood.  Creating can be a struggle these days, but making work always makes me feel something close to happy.

Let's create together.

*Where does the name AriesNamarie come from?  It's a pseudonym I've used since high school.  "Aries" is my astrological sign.  The traits of an Aries have always rung true for me, especially the weaknesses of the sign (such as being great at starting projects, but never wanting to finish them!)  "Namarie" comes from the world of Tolkien and means "farewell", but can also be translated as "blessing."  The dichotomy of this word perfectly illustrates my feelings on the beauty of sorrow, something I've long explored in my work.

The world always seems brighter when you’ve just made something that wasn’t there before.
